Down Red Spice Road

I have been to Red Spice Road on McKillop Street quite a few times and last night was the first time I have been back in nearly a year. It made me remember why I always wanted to return.

The great service and food with so much flavour you just want to keep eating and eating, it really is an awesome experience.

To start, we ordered us the lamb ribs served with an eggplant relish. These were definitely one of my favourites and still are. The meat is so tender and has such a lovely crisp coating, it would be quit easy to eat a few plates of these. The only complaint I have is that I definitely preferred these ribs when they were served with the chilli jam. I found that the eggplant flavour just didn't compliment the dish.

We ordered two mains to share. The first one we ordered was an all time favourite of crispy pork belly, apple slaw, chilli caramel and black vinegar. I simply cannot fault this dish, with such an amazing balance of sweet and sour it is so delicious. Try it for yourself, you will see why you cannot resist eating more!

This dish above, would have to be hands down the most delicious dish I have had in a long, long time. This was the beef short rib, with steamed buns, pickled vegetable and spice paste. I really think I could have eaten this all on my own but I was kind enough to share it. I would highly recommend this dish also.

Red Pork Belly Curry

Chicken Mince Egg Net Salad with red onion, spinach and cashews.

With a side of rice and roti bread.

The Chicken Egg Net salad is an all time favourite dish of mine and is consistently good. 

I have been to Cookie a number of times and it never fails to disappoint in terms of flavour and quality of the food. The vibe of the restaurant is fantastic and I always enjoy visiting.

Also, have you checked out their cocktail list?! And the list of over 200 beers? I would highly recommend getting on to that pronto.

No-Bake Energy Balls


  • 1/3 cup   Honey
  • 1/2 cup   Smooth Peanut Butter
  • 1 cup      Oats, raw
  • 6 tbsp     Dark Chocolate Chips (or pieces finely chopped)
  • 1tsp         Vanilla Extract
  • 2/3 cup   Shredded coconut, toasted and cooled
  • 1/2 cup    Ground golden flaxseed meal (optional)


In a mixing bowl, stir together honey, peanut butter and vanilla extract. Add remaining ingredients and stir until evenly coated. Put the mixture into the fridge to set.

Remove from fridge and shape into 1 inch balls. 

Store in fridge in an airtight container.

WARNING: extremely delicious and will disappear quickly!


It was a sweet surprise to see that Adriano Zumbo has at last opened up a shop in Melbourne.

Hidden on Claremont Street, South Yarra it is full of spectacular looking desserts and amazing macaroons. I was eyeing up the smokes flavour macaroon but we had eventually decided to get two desserts. 

We chose the passionfruit tart and a strawberry mousse tart. I definitely preferred the passionfruit tart - it was so delicious with hints of tanginess from the fruit. I could have eaten a few more of those and at $6, why not! 

Next time I will definitely be trying the Lemon Meringue tart as seen in the first photo. It looks as pretty as a picture and almost too good too eat.

Burgers and Beers

Each month Maha introduce a lunch burger and beer combo.

Last month I was lucky enough to get to try one. May's burger was a wagyu beef pattie, smoked bacon, lettuce, cheese and truffle mayo. Needless to say when I read what it was, my mouth was uncontrollably salivating as yours is right now I am sure.

It was absolutely divine and I ate every last bite. I really enjoyed the beer that came with it also. Cisk isn' a brand of beer I had heard of before but I will be trying to hunt it down come summertime.

To get all of this deliciousness it will cost you a mere $18. Considering all of the ingredients are top shelf and that price includes a beer, you can't go wrong with this work lunch feast.

The June burger is the Brazilian World Cup burger with pork, chorizo, avocado and anchochilli. I cannot wait to see what burgers are to come.
